Nova is a teenage boy with a fur-trimmed blue body suit and a zippered mask. He's slim, with red hair and green-teal eyes. He's exceptionally shy and quiet, especially around women. He rarely talks, but what he says is important.

He is also a modified soul, created by Urahara Kisuke as a defence against the Bounto (beings that are able to have extended life spans by consuming human souls, created by Ran-Tao in Soul Society). He, along with his teammates Ririn and Cloud, have sensors that allow them to detect Bounto. Along with this, Urahara gave them each unique abilities, Nova's being the ability to control the atmosphere. He can transport people between dimensions, which allows him to move them to different locations. He can also redirect physical and energy-based attacks back at the attacker, and absorb fire.

When Nova is first introduced, he is (along with Ririn and Cloud) an enemy to Ichigo. After some "games", it is revealed that he was created by Urahara for their protection. Nova is then sent home with Chad for protection. Chad, also a quiet individual, seems to have an understanding with Nova. Nova's modified soul capsule is then removed from his gigai (faux body) and put into a plush turtle.

 

While Nova is in the plush turtle, his teleportation range lowers (to 2 meters), as does the rest of his abilities. He also becomes easily tired after using his abilities.

Nova is the least mischievous member of his team. He manages to save his teammates time and time again (for instance, when they were trying to prove that their Doll traps worked). However, he does manage to avoid blame by zipping up his mask. He also does this when he's embarassed (which is adorable).
